Why are Mac recovery tools more expensive than Windows versions?

Programs used to recover Mac data will generally cost almost twice as much as those used on Windows PCs. The reason for this is simple. There are many low quality Windows data recovery programs on the marketplace that barely deliver on promises to recover your lost files. The nature of Mac recovery software is such that there is no middle ground. A program either works to recover Mac data or it does not. The entire process of recognizing during a scan the proprietary nature of Mac operating system files requires software built for only that task.

While there are hundreds of programs capable of recognizing common image and document files, corrupted Mac OS X files can only be recognized by software capable of distinguishing file structure on the unique Mac OS type/creator file system. These operating system files are used to store, open and present conventional file types placed within a Mac OS directory. Think of these proprietary Mac OS files as a special set of keys that only work on a special type of lock.
