Is it possible to recover deleted recycle bin files?

Yes, when you delete a file and then empty your recycle bin, many people think the file is permanently gone. Even the Windows will help in “Deleting an item from the Recycle Bin permanently removes it from your computer”. With the operating system like Windows simply deleting a file or even following that up by emptying the “recycle bin” doesn’t necessarily make the information irretrievable. Those commands generally delete a files name from the directory, so it won’t show up when the files are listed. But the information itself can live on until it is overwritten by new files. Files are never actually deleted when you empty the recycle bin or remove files individually from recycle bin. The operating system simply removes access to those files from the hard drive. The area occupied by the files is then marked available. If the operating system requires space for new files, at any point in time, it may overwrite the area where deleted file lies. Until any files emptied from the recycle bin are overwritten by the operating system, they still exist on the hard drive and recover files recycle bin.

Precautions to be taken after deletion of files –

  • Immediately switch off the computer.
  • Do not try to save any files on to the hard disk.
  • Do not even boot the system.
  • Finally, connect the drive you wish to recover files from to another system and then install deleted files recovery software.
